Jaya Bachchan and Jagdeep Dhankhar clash over tone in Rajya Sabha session.
During Fridayâs Rajya Sabha session, tensions flared between Vice-President and Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar and Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan. The conflict arose when Dhankharâs tone was questioned by Bachchan as she addressed the House. As soon as she began her speech, Bachchan emphasized her understanding of body language and expression, suggesting that Dhankhar’s tone was inappropriate. She asserted that his position does not entitle him to “school” the members.
In response, Dhankhar sternly reminded Bachchan of the importance of maintaining decorum, stating, âYou may be a celebrity, but you have to understand the decorum.â The exchange reached a boiling point when Bachchan demanded an apology, leading to protests from the Opposition and a walkout led by Congress leader Sonia Gandhi.
After the session, Bachchan expressed her displeasure to the media, criticizing Dhankharâs tone and actions, including turning off the Leader of Opposition’s microphone. She highlighted the importance of respecting senior members and insisted on receiving an apology. Bachchan also condemned the recent use of unparliamentary language in the House, stating it was unlike anything she had seen in her five terms as a Parliament member.
