Microsoft 365, the cloud-powered productivity platform by Microsoft, experienced a major outage today. Downdetector, an outage detection platform, reported over 900 incidents related to Microsoft 365. Approximately 74 percent of users faced issues with OneDrive, 16 percent experienced server connection problems, and 10 percent struggled with Outlook.
In its service status report, Microsoft confirmed, “Users may be unable to access various Microsoft 365 apps and services.” The impact extended to OneDrive for Consumer, OneDrive for Business, and OneNote, causing issues like inability to access content, delays in syncing notebooks, and problems opening notebooks.
One of the most significant disruptions was for Frontier Airlines, which faced hours of standstill due to the Microsoft outage. In a statement, Frontier said, “Our systems are currently impacted by a Microsoft outage, which is also affecting other companies. We appreciate your patience.”
Microsoft acknowledged the issue and stated, “We’re continuing to notice service health improvements and users will gradually see relief as our efforts progress. Concurrently, we’re still developing a fix to address the underlying issue of this incident. We appreciate your organization’s patience and understanding while we resolve this event.”
The outage also affected Xbox Live services. Many Xbox users reported being unable to access their accounts and play games. The Xbox Support team confirmed, “We are aware that some users have been disconnected from Xbox Live. We’re investigating.”
Xbox users took to social media to share their experiences. Despite the widespread issues, Microsoft has confirmed that “Everything is up and running” and the outage lasted for over three hours.
